I like it much better with the strap. I've always preferred pedals with straps instead of chains. I'm not a heavy-footed player, so I don't have issues with breaking straps or anything like that. Chain-drive pedals always seem to be a little noiser and clunkier than straps for me. I have an old DW5000 strap-drive single pedal that I've had since the mid '70's and is still smooth as butter today. The 9000 has the same strap feel and is even smoother due to the improvements in design and technology. I've played many pedals, single and double, from Rogers to Tama to Gibraltar to DW over the years and the 9000 is the best yet.

As for resecuring the strap, I didn't actually break the bottom nut, just sort of unstuck it. There was another screw provided for the strap and I was able to re-use the bottom nut and everything tightened up fine.

    Hope this helps.

    finally fixed it...

got the screws out and they were so burred that i had to drive around everywhere to try and replace them....got a very close match so had to change the bolt too....seems to work fine tho and the strap is much quieter and a little smoother.
